About Us
Restoring Hope, One Net at a Time
Fisherman’s Wharf Ghana is a nonprofit initiative born out of compassion, community, and a deep desire to change the tides for Ghana’s coastal fishing families. Our mission is simple: to support, protect, and uplift the fishmongers, fishermen, widows, and children who rely on fishing not just as a livelihood, but as a way of life.
The Problem
The Crisis at Sea
Ghana’s coastal fishing communities are in crisis. Over 2 million Ghanaians rely on fishing to survive, yet catch sizes have dropped by over 85% since 1996 due to overfishing, fuel shortages, and equipment breakdowns.

Sometimes my children sleep hungry when the boats don’t go out. Even when we do go out, there’s barely anything to bring back.”
Agnes Lamptey, Fishmonger in Shama
Small-scale fishermen — often the poorest — are hardest hit. Days are lost due to the scarcity of premix fuel, and outboard motors frequently break down without access to repairs. There’s little to no access to banks or credit, and without cold storage, fish often spoil before they reach the market.

“In 2021 alone, over 250 Ghanaian fishermen lost their lives at sea — many because they couldn’t afford motor servicing or safety gear
